Annotatsiya

This article investigates the distribution of stresses within soil masses and their fundamental role in geotechnical design. The study focuses on the distinction between geostatic and induced stresses, emphasizing the application of Terzaghi’s effective stress principle in predicting soil behavior. Using mathematical models such as Boussinesq’s theory, the distribution of vertical and horizontal stresses is analyzed in the context of foundation stability and settlement. The paper highlights the critical function of stress analysis in preventing shear failure and ensuring the structural integrity of engineering projects. The findings provide a theoretical basis for engineers to better assess soil-structure interactions under varying hydrogeological conditions.
